Allan Takahashi joined Hotel Management Japan Co. Ltd. (HMJ) in January of 2018 and expanded the company from 12 hotels in 2018, to 20 hotels with an additional 8 new hotels scheduled to open in 2021 and 2022 in Japan. In 2018, Takahashi established HMJ International (HMJI), a sister company to HMJ to accelerate the expansion and subsequently established HMJI’s subsidiary company, PT. HMJ International Indonesia (HMJII) in 2019, as a joint venture with Topotels Hotels & Resorts in Indonesia. The new joint venture operate 19 hotels in Indonesia and Malaysia with an additional 5 hotels in the pipeline.
Takahashi started his hotel career in Hawaii, starting at the Sheraton Maui Hotel and then moved to Aston Hotels & Resorts (now Aqua-Aston Hotels) where he worked in development and added 1,700 new hotel rooms to Aston’s Hawaii portfolio. In 1997, he established Aston Indonesia (now Archipelago Group) where he was the Company’s President Director and opened Aston Indonesia’s first hotel in Bali and then 2 additional hotels in Jakarta.
In 2001, Takahashi joined Lehman Brothers in Tokyo where he was involved in acquiring non-performing hotels, renovating them and repositioning them through a hotel operating company that he also headed. In 2006, Takahashi moved to Bangkok, Thailand to establish the hotel asset management platform for Lehman Brothers Thailand.
Upon returning to Tokyo in 2009, Takahashi acted as an Advisor to Max Realty, a company established between SMBC and XYMAX and brokered a number of hotel transactions in Japan.
