ONYX Hospitality Group
Vice President Development
As a leading member of ONYX Hospitality Group’s global business development team, Markus is tasked to further grow the company’s footprint in Asia, Australia and the Middle East. ONYX is expanding fast and has set a target of having 99 hotels open by 2024 as part of its journey towards being the best medium-sized hospitality player in the region. The ONYX brand portfolio spans a diverse yet complimentary range of owned and managed hospitality products:
ORIENTAL RESIDENCE (luxury hotels)
AMARI (upper-upscale hotels)
YOO COLLECTION and YOO2 (life-style hotels)
OZO (midscale hotels)
SHAMA LUXE, SHAMA and SHAMA HUB (serviced apartments and co-living studios)
Markus’ career at ONYX began as a humble Management Trainee 15 years ago, leading to senior positions in operations, corporate projects and preopening. He subsequently helped establish the business development function, paving the way for ONYX’ recent international expansion. Markus is a graduate of Swiss Hotel Management School Lucerne in Switzerland and currently enrolled in the Sasin Executive MBA program jointly developed by Kellogg School of Management (USA) and Thailand’s Chulalongkorn University.
At SEAHIS 2019, Markus will share his views on Malaysia, a key expansion market for ONYX, in a dedicated country round table session.
